UroCentre Procedure Overviews

  • Cystoscopy
    A procedure where by a lighted instrument (scope) enables an Urologist to examine the urethra, bladder and prostate in men.  In women the urethra and bladder is examined.  The procedure typically takes 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Cystoscopy with biopsy
    If any tissue in the bladder wall appears abnormal, a small tissue sample can be removed to be analyzed.
  • Prostate biopsy
    A procedure in which a specially designed needle, guided by an ultrasound probe inserted into the rectum is used to obtain tissue from the prostate. After the specimen is obtained, it is sent for examination by a pathologist. The procedure typically takes 20 - 25 minutes.
  • Excision of skin lesions
    A procedure in which skin or tissue is removed for diagnosis. The tissue(s) is (are) sent to a pathologist for diagnostic confirmation. This is usually done with local anesthesia. The procedure typically takes 5-10 minutes.
  • Vasectomy
    A minor surgical procedure to cut and close off the tubes (vas deferens) that deliver sperm from the testes; usually performed as a means of contraception. The procedure typically takes 15 to 30 minutes and is done under local anesthesia.
